COVID-19 Update for the future of the Edinburgh Green Film Festival
The hopes of scheduling our original July dates for later this year became less and less possible as the year has gone on. The final stumbling block came when our partners, the Cameo Picturehouse, closed indefinitely. We would only want to hold the Edinburgh Green Film Festival when it is safe and responsible to do so, and we hope everyone continues to stay safe and take care of each other in this trying year.
However, in this downtime, we have still been busy.
We are really grateful to have received funding from Edinburgh Napier Univerisity. This funding will enable our festival to run for the first time in 2021 when it is safe and responsible to do so. We have also worked hard to complete a fully comprehensive environmental policy which will ensure the festival will be ran in an environmentally conscious way.
Looking ahead, we intend to run the Edinburgh Green Film Festival sometime in 2021, hopefully at the end of the summer. With the changing landscape of how cinemas and festivals are ran, the festival may have to adopt a blended approach - providing some of our programme online and some in one of Edinburgh’s independent cinemas.
However, our mission remains the same: to create a platform for informative and crucial filmmaking that engages with the issues we face as we tackle the climate crisis.
